Arches of Oman

Artist: Giles Rayner, GR Sculpture Ltd

Project Overview

We were proud to be commissioned to manufacture a stunning 12-metre-high architectural stainless steel water feature, now standing as a centrepiece in the private gardens of the Royal Opera House in Muscat, Oman. Created by acclaimed sculptor Giles Rayner of GR Sculpture Ltd, the sculpture showcases a seamless fusion of artistic vision and precision engineering.

Design & Technical Brilliance

Taking inspiration from the traditional Islamic arch, the piece features a series of elegantly interwoven stainless steel forms. These polished tusks curve dynamically to create a fluid, sculptural presence. Integrated high-pressure water jets, carefully embedded within the inner surfaces, transform the structure into a mesmerising water feature, with light dancing across the reflective steel surface.

Precision Manufacturing

Fabricated from Duplex stainless steel, the structure was expertly manufactured and polished by our skilled engineers at their UK-based facility. Spanning three and a half years from concept to completion, the project required rigorous attention to detail and stringent quality control throughout every stage of production.

A Collaborative Effort

The success of the Arches of Oman was underpinned by a strong collaborative approach between ourselves, sculptor Giles Rayner, and Commission Director Julian Glyn-Owen. A series of detailed design reviews and technical consultations ensured the final piece delivered both artistic integrity and structural excellence.

Delivering a Landmark Installation

This ambitious project was realised thanks to the combined efforts of a multidisciplinary team, including:

  • Design Engineers – Ensuring structural and visual precision
  • Structural Engineers – Conducting support and load analysis
  • Steel Fabricators – Executing high-accuracy fabrication
  • Hydraulics Specialists – Designing and integrating water jet systems

From concept through to shipping and on-site installation in Oman, we upheld the highest standards of UK manufacturing. The final result is a breath taking architectural feature that blends form, function, and cultural significance.
