From Modest Beginnings to a Contract Manufacturing Powerhouse
WEC Fabrication is where it all began in 1979, though it was originally known as The Welding Engineering Company, founded by former apprentice Steve Hartley and Ross Place after both fell victim to the 'three-day week’. Starting from humble beginnings in a 1,000 sq. ft. makeshift shed in Darwen, Lancashire, the company has grown into the UK’s largest engineering and fabrication group with over 1,100 staff and 760,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing floorspace across 10 UK sites and 15 specialist divisions.
