Our facilities are equipped to manufacture a wide range of light rail electrification structures, including overhead line support poles, cantilevers, portal structures, anchor portals, Main Steel, Small Parts Steel (SPS) and bespoke structural fabrications. Every component is manufactured to customer specifications and can be supplied fully finished with protective coatings suitable for long-term outdoor performance.
By carrying out laser cutting, CNC machining, press braking, welding, fabrication, assembly and finishing in-house, we maintain complete control over quality throughout the manufacturing process. This integrated approach allows us to reduce lead times, improve consistency and deliver reliable fabrication solutions for projects of every size. Recent Projects
Manchester LRT Metrolink
Manchester Metrolink was England’s first modern street-running light rail system. Opened in 1992, it combined the best features of heavy rail and traditional tramways, pioneering the modern era of light rail in the UK. Commissioned by Balfour Beatty and Brecknell Willis in 1992, WEC Group fabricated all the overhead line poles for the original Metrolink network and has continued to support its expansion, supplying poles for every extension completed between 2011 and 2018.
