Cooling Hood Fabrication

WEC Group has been manufacturing Boss Vessel Removable Hoods since 2008. The Cooling Hoods act as a waste gas cooling system for the steel production industry with the function of turning waste corrosive gases into neutral vapour.

Cooling Hoods are manufactured to within a 5mm tolerance, with ultra-sonic testing & magnetic particle inspection, and tested to 26 Bar pressure with 10% non-destructive testing.

Comprising of 260 formed tubes and weighing in at 23 tonnes with 9.5Km of welding, large removable hoods measure 9.5m in length with a 4.6m diameter and take around 9000 hours to complete.

Comprising of 236 formed tubes with 4.2Km of welding involved, the small fixed hoods weigh 9 tonnes, measure 3m in length with a 4.6m diameter and take around 4000 hours to complete.

Disassembled for transport, the Cooling Hoods are delivered to site and reassembled.
